Amy and Matt
When I was 26 years old, Matt and I married. I had also been diagnosed with severe Crohn’s/Colitis disease only 2 months before my wedding. Although I wanted to start a family right away, I had to postpone that due to the medications I was taking to keep my disease under control. Finally, 3 years later, the Crohn’s was under control. I was in remission, and I stopped taking Remicade.
4 years later, I still was not pregnant. It was devastating watching countless women having children and enduring the questions from people about when I was going to have children. Each month that passed I cried, and each mention of my childless life was like a knife to the heart. I stopped going to certain places and avoided certain people. I kept my infertility mostly to myself and suffered in silence. After a few diagnostic procedures it was found that I had large fibroids in my uterus and a partially blocked fallopian tube. I was told that this potentially could be contributing to my infertility, but many women still conceive with these issues. I was then started on Clomid. I did six cycles of Clomid and nothing happened.
My husband and I decided that we were going to try IVF in another six months. We needed some time to figure out how we were going to make that happen and honestly we needed to make some lifestyle changes to have the healthiest body possible for the process. However, we were going to continue to “try” on our own during these six months
About a month after the last cycle of Clomid, I sought the advice of a local Pharmacist who specializes in natural remedies. I was willing to try anything at this point. I made some dietary changes and proceeded with his recommendations and supplements for balancing my hormones. The next month, I was pregnant! In January of this year I welcomed my son Emmett to our lives. Five and a half years after the beginning of my journey.
