There can be a lot of pressure in the New Year to make big changes.
This can be especially overwhelming if you are going through infertility.
Social gatherings can be fraught with questions about when are you going to have children.
Even if you have prepared a response to these questions, this can still leave you feeling drained and exhausted.
Next thing you know it’s the New Year and you may feel like you need a plan.
What if this year you decided to take action, but learned to let go of the results?
Yes we know you want a baby in 2017.
How about this year you focus on you!
Your health, your emotional well-being, your spiritual practice!
This is your year!
Because a healthy mom and dad = healthy pregnancy = healthy baby!
Where to start?
How about fueling your body with nutrient dense fertility foods? Adding lots of green vegetables (green juice anyone?), complex carbohydrates (brown rice and quinoa are my favourites), fruits (strawberries, blueberries, pears, apples) and healthy fats (coconut oil, avocado’s and nuts, you’ll keep your blood sugar stable and feel satiated longer).
Don’t forget fertility teas. I love nettle tea, raspberry tea and clover tea. They are so good for immunity and reproductive health.
The Fertility Diet Challenge will get you started!
How about being firm on your boundaries?
How often are you saying “yes”, when you really mean “no”? In order to take care of others, we need to take care of ourselves first.
Saying “no” may be tough at first and may make us feel uncomfortable, but the more we exercise this “no” muscle the better we’ll feel!
Do you need to take on that extra workload? Did you need to meet that friend for dinner, when you would have rather come home?
Begin to prioritize you! Did you make time to ensure you got 7-9 hours of sleep (this step alone can help to improve fertility dramatically).
Yes this means taking your phone out of your bedroom, so you can’t respond to that last crucial email or social media post!
What about picking a spiritual practice?
So many of us have lost our intuition. We’ve lost touch with what is good for our body.
We’ve outsourced this to the experts.
Remember our body will whisper to us everyday and when we ignore the whispers, it will shout at us in the form of disease.
Yes infertility is a disease.
It’s time to really listen to your body.
Did you take time to breathe today? Big belly breaths are best.
Did you take a few minutes to get quiet?
Could mean a guided meditation, walking meditation, quiet reflections using your journal, or maybe holding a favourite crystal.
Don’t underestimate these seemingly small steps.
They begin to open up the space within you for a baby.
They open up the space of knowing.
They begin to cast away the self-doubt and give birth to new possibilities.
The Guided Fertility Visualization is a good place to start!
Know in the beginning as you start to make these changes that self-sabotage will begin to rear its ugly little head.
Telling you “who are you to put yourself first”, “you’re being selfish”. Know that these thoughts are completely normal.
Self-sabotage is just trying to take you off track again!
When you focus on you and really give yourself love and send yourself compassion, then you’ll be able to show compassion to someone else.
Seems counterintuitive, but true!
Let 2017 be the year of you!
